Liarin Maysek

Born in Mondauli, Tanzania, Liarin is one of eight children. His mother was one of his father’s 14 wives.

He became fascinated with the art of hair braiding and first began to experiment in 2003. Self-taught, Liarin creates highly intricate patterns, braiding hair into long plaits, often incorporating stands of wool for greater length and color. His movable art, adorned with beads and metal, celebrates tradition and brings joy to men and women.
